The Neck / Truganini Lookout And Penguin Watching

A must visit in Bruny Island, the neck has breathtaking views of the middle of Bruny isthmus  after walking up a series of steps, sometimes you will see those little penguins foot prints in the morning. Best to visit is in a nice clear day or after sunset for penguin watching. There is a penguin lookout point near the beach. The beach on the neck is spectacular, clear blue water and great spot for an easy walk.

Cape Bruny Lighthouse

It’s an inactive lighthouse located in the South Bruny National Park, about (26.4 km) 35-40 minutes drive from Mandala. (Cape Bruny Lighthouse is the second oldest extant lighthouse tower in Australia. A setting that features an amazing landscape overseeing the imposing sea cliffs, experience the 360° view of the day and the magic sunset. No need to pre-book the lighthouse tour.

Fishing & Surfing

Bruny Island offers great fishing spots for Tasmanian local Salmon, squid, flat head and all Tasmanian’s fish. Closest at Alonnah jetty or drive another 10 minutes to Lunawanna jetty, more to Adventure Bay jetty.

For surfing enthusiast, Bruny Island is a great place to explore surf. The Neck, Coal Point, The Cape Light House Beach, Cloudy Bay and Lagoon.

NATIONAL PARKS & BUSHWALKS

Short Walk at Alonnah – Dray track/Sheepwash bay track, easy walk 3 km return

Medium walks:

  • Mavista Nature Walk, 30 – 40 minutes return (located at Adventure Bay via Lockleys Road)
  • Truganini look out / Neck lookout (10 km long neck beach)
  • Grass Point at Adventure Bay road (1.5 hours return)
  • Luggaboine Circuit (1.5 hours circuit) start from light house jetty beach camping area.

Long walks:

  • Fluted Cape trail in Adventure Bay, 2.5 hours returns
  • Cape Queen Elizabeth, 12 km return, moderate to hard walks.
  • East Cloudy Bay Head track, 12 km return about 4 hours walk (suggested for amateur adventures)
  • Labillardiere Peninsula Circuit, 14 km circuit, about 5-6 hours walk. Starts from Old Jetty Road, just before Cape Bruny Lighthouse.
