Your Bruny Island Journey Starts Here

Getting There

Access to Bruny Island is via a vehicular ferry from Kettering, which is about a 40-minute drive from Hobart Airport. The ferry trip takes about 15–20 minutes. From the Roberts Point ferry terminal, it’s a scenic 30- to 40-minute drive to Mandala, passing through the ‘Neck’ isthmus (Truganini lookout) and arriving in Alonnah. Mandala is located a couple of kilometers from Alonnah on a short stretch of dirt road, Matthew Flinders Drive. You can also reach Mandala by foot or bike along the historic ‘dray track’ from Alonnah.

Exploring The Area

Mandala is perfectly positioned for exploring all that Bruny Island has to offer. In nearby Alonnah, you’ll find Island Coffee and the Hotel Bruny restaurant. A short drive south leads to Bruny’s premium winery and restaurant, or you can continue to the island’s southern tip to see the Lighthouse and walk around the Labillardiere Peninsula. You can also branch east to the famous Cloudy Bay surf beach.

Adventure Bay, a popular holiday hub, is a 15–20 minute drive away and offers pristine beaches, a general store, and the departure point for the acclaimed Bruny Island Cruises. These cruises provide exhilarating boat tours around the southern cliffs, where you might spot dolphins and albatrosses.

For food lovers, North Bruny Island is home to Bruny Island Cheese, Get Shucked Oysters, and the best wood-fired pizza at Bruny Island Wild at Dennes Point Cafe. Depending on the season, you can also find locally grown cherries, berries, olives, and roadside veggie stalls across the island.
